The Galileo Affair
In 2024-2025, I worked as a middle school Humanities teacher at Fiddlehead School of Arts and Sciences. This class included Social Studies, Reading, Writing, and Art.
To connect with a talented but challenging population, I worked all year to produce a puppet show, as part of our art goals. We wanted the show to incorporate both history and science, so settled on a show about the astronomer Galileo. The students learned science history, research, note taking, script writing, sewing, prop fabrication, puppet making, power tool use and safety, engineering, marketing, acting, and of course, puppeteering.
The ODD-yssey
In 2025-2026 my 8th grade wrote a puppet musical comedy about the Odyssey. We created about 20 high quality puppets and about 8 finger puppets, along with numerous props and backdrops. The music was a mixture of completely original material written by a couple students, and music parodies. As before, students learned project management, executive function, research, script writing, song writing, acting, comedy, singing and much more.
